High Powered Offense Continues
La Mirada, CA - Biola's high scoring offense continued as the Eagles took home a 25-3 win over Pacific. The Eagles jumped out to a fast 9-1 first quarter lead and never looked back. At halftime the Eagles held a 15-1 lead, and a 23-2 lead after three quarters. Despite the score, Pacific held their own having only one substitute for the game.
For Biola's attackman, Jeff Clark had five goals and one assist, Billy McMahan had four goals and two assists, and Adam Kingston had one goal and two assists. Amongst the midfielders, Marc Morgan scored twice, while 12 players each had one goal: Andrew Acker, Jordan Adams, Alex Bustrum, Nate Chaim, John Crowell, Scott Gamelson, Michael Harris, Sean Lane, Joe Lee, Nathan Palatsky, Scott Shiokari and David Sigley.
Several assists came from the midfielders as well; Adams, Sigley and Shiokari all had two, with Morgan and David Ha adding one a piece. Not to be outdone, defenseman Patrick Murphy scored his first career goal. Goalie Jon Lowell made four saves and allowed only one in his time in the cage; back-up goalie/midfielder Chaim stepped in in the second half, recording seven saves.
Biola Wins Big in Second League Game
Los Angeles, CA - Biola got off their four game losing streak in a big way, winning over Occidental, 20-3. The win also evens up the Eagle's league record to 1-1. Biola jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter, a lead that ballooned to 9-0 at halftime. Occidental scored three in the second half, but the Eagles responded with 11 goals of their own.
The offensive production was led by attackmen Billy McMahan, Adam Kingston and Jeff Clark, a new addition to the attack line. Kingston had four goals and two assists, McMahan netted three goals and two assists, and Clark ended his first game at attack with three goals and one assist.
Not to be outdone, eight midfielders put their names in the scoring column as well. Jordan Adam, Alex Bustrum, John Crowell and David Sigley all ended the night with two goals; Adams added an assist to his totals. Nate Chaim and Scott Gamelson each had one goal, while Andrew Acker and Riley Gilmore added an assist each. Goalie Jon Lowell had eight saves for a .727 save percentage.
Biola Continues Slide, Loses League Game
La Mirada, CA - Biola's losing streak was pushed to four games, after a 10-9 loss to Long Beach. The back and forth game saw Biola up by one after the first quarter, and tied 6-6 at the half. After three quarters, both teams were knotted up at 8-8. Long Beach scored the eventual game winner on a tipped shot with under two minutes left. Biola had two chances to tie the game, but were unsuccessful to do so.
Attackman Adam Kingston led Biola with two goals and two assists. Getting one goal each were attackmen Billy McMahan and David Sigley, and midfielders Jordan Adams and Scott Shiokari. Midfielder David Ha added an assist to the scorebook. Goalie Jon Lowell did his best to keep Biola in the game, recording 18 saves.
Eagles Leave Vegas Winless
Las Vegas, NV - Biola participated in the first annual Full House Face Off Tournament in Las Vegas on Feb. 19 and 20. The Eagles took on Western Oregon, the eventual tournament runners-up, in their first game. Western Oregon came out on fire, ending the first quarter up 6-0. Biola couldn't recover, ending the game with a 19-6 loss.
Game two saw Biola match up against Northern Arizona. Despite the loss, the Eagles played a much better game than the previous night. Biola was only down one after the first, and outscored NAU in the second half 6-4; however, a 4-0 second quarter in favor of NAU gave them the 12-9 win.
Attackman Billy McMahan led the Eagles over the weekend with five goals and an assist. Attackman Adam Kingston had four goals in the two games; and David Sigley scored his two goals and an assist as an attackman against NAU. Both gathering two points were midfielders Jordan Adams (2G) and David Ha (1G, 1A). Midfielders Nate Chaim (1A) and John Crowell (1G) both had one point. Goalie Jon Lowell collected 33 saves over the weekend.
Biola Gets First Loss of Season
La Mirada, CA - Biola suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Claremont on Sunday, Feb. 7. The Eagles were overmatched from the start, ending the first quarter down 5-1. Biola only managed to score two more times, once in the second and once in the third, with a final score of 13-3.
Midfielder Jordan Adams led Biola's scoring with one goal and one assist. A pair of attackmen, Billy McMahan and Adam Kingston, both scored one goal. Attackman Alex Bustrum added an assist for the Eagles. Goalie Jon Lowell made 20 saves in the loss.
Season Opens with Overtime Finish
La Mirada, CA - Biola prevailed with an overtime win over the St. Mary's Gaels, Wednesday night, 8-7. The game started slow, with a 1-1 score after the first quarter. Both teams settled in a little more after the opening quarter, and Biola ended the half leading 3-2.
Both offenses remained cold in the third quarter, with each team netting a goal each. The scoring in the fourth equaled the previous three quarters, as the Eagles and Gaels combined for seven goals. St. Mary's tied the game with under two minutes to play to force overtime
After two defensive stands in overtime, midfielder David Sigley grabbed the groundball at midfield, leading the fast break. Attackman Adam Kingston got the ball in front of the crease, sealing the win with 1:36 left to play.
Midfielder Jordan Adams led the Eagles with three goals, and Kingston added two assists to his game-winner for three points. Attackman Billy McMahan scored a goal and added an assist. Midfielder Andrew Acker, attackman Alex Bustrum and midfielder Scott Gamelson all scored one goal. Goalie Jon Lowell had 16 saves.
Biola Ranked in Two Preseason Polls
The Biola Eagles have been ranked in the top-15 in the nation in two preseason MCLA Division 2 polls. The Eagles were ranked #14 by the 'MCLA: The Lax Mag' poll, released on January 11.
Jac Coyne, of 'Lacrosse Magazine Online,' picked Biola to take the #10 spot in the national tournament. Coyne states 'the Eagles are the great unknown, and have the talent to shake the whole thing up.'
Biola Playing in Full House Face Off
Biola lacrosse is participating in the 'Full House Face Off' in February, 2010. The tournament will be hosted by Westminster College, and the Eagles will match up against Western Oregon in their first game. Their first game will be on February 19, at 5:00 PM.
With a win in the first game, Biola will play the winner of the Western Washington/Utah Valley University game; the game would be on Feb. 20 at 10:00 AM. Should the Eagles lose the first game, they would play the losing team from the Western/Utah Valley game; the game would be on Feb. 20 at 12:30 PM. Two wins in a row puts the Eagles in the championship game, to be held on Feb. 20 at 4:15 PM.
2009 Season Wrap-Up
The success of the 2009 Biola lacrosse season found the team taking strides on and off the field the continue the proud tradition that is Biola lacrosse. A very dedicated group of guys took the field day-in and day-out, playing 'For One' and showing the team they have come to be.
Starting the season on probation for eligibility issues, the Eagles were determined to prove they belonged at the top of the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC) standings. They did just that, going 7-0 in SLC Division 2 play. The on-field success didn't stop there however. Biola ran past their Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division 2 opponents with a 10-0 overall record. The Eagles posted a 12-5 overall record, including a win over MCLA Division 1 USC.
Eight Eagles took home all-conference awards, the most in Biola's history. Freshman Adam Kingston took home top honors as a first-team all-conference attackman. Senior Brad Westcott, claimed a spot on the all-conference second team along with senior John Crowell and junior Jordan Adams. Junior Billy McMahan, senior Garrett Wragg, senior Matt Hiett, and junior Jonathan Lowell all found spots on the all-conference honorable mention team.
